Livestock Guardian Dogs(LGD) describes a classification of dogs that were bred to protect Livestock. Most of the breeds originated in Europe and Asia to protect sheep and later goats. They started about 10,000 years ago. Starting with mastiffs, they spread out across the continents. LGC classification includes Anatolans, Marremma, Muchuchi, Kangals, Great Pyrenees and many others. These dogs protect the livestock, they aren’t herding dogs. They were bred to live amongst the farm animals and keep predators away.
